The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE and the CEOE Equality and Diversity Commission held an event on Friday 21 June at CEOE's headquarters in Madrid to present the Standard UNE-ISO 53800 Guidelines for the Promotion and Implementation of Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
More than 100 experts from 62 countries around the world have worked on the development of this pioneering international standard. Spain actively participated through the UNE Gender Equality Committee (CTN-UNE 194), led by Val Díez, president of CEOE's Equality and Diversity Commission and CEO of STANPA. As a national member of ISO, UNE also led the process of translating the ISO 53800 standard into Spanish, to make it easier to understand and use for the nearly 500 million Spanish speakers around the world.
This global standard offers a working model for equality in organizations, regardless of business, type or size, which includes guidelines, tools, best practices and other resources that will help organizations assess their current situation, identify barriers and opportunities, and develop specific actions. The goal is for each organization to commit to real gender equality and to set goals based on its situation and context, and to look for equally committed partners and collaborators, creating a network of real and effective equality.
Leading experts in the Standard attended the event: Val Díez from CEOE and Stanpa; Javier García, UNE and ISO; Elena Ordozgoiti, UNE; María Muñoz, Ministry of Industry and Tourism; María Jesús Aguado, Ministry of Equality; Isabel Alonso, EJE&CON; and Julián Vicente Bravo, SIEMENS. They shared the core aspects of UNE-ISO 53800 with attendees, plus its potential transformational impact and how it applies to organisational culture.
