The Spanish Association for Standardization recently held a UNE Information Seminar:Metals and Minerals for the Energy Transition, which provided details on the proposal of the French standardization body (AFNOR) to create a new technical body in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to deal with standardization in the field of special metals and minerals.
The purpose of the session was to determine the national interest in this proposal, monitor this international committee and actively participate in its activity. Attendees were able to exchange opinions on this initiative and ask any questions they deemed relevant to help them assess their interest in it.
The energy transition involves the use of special metals and minerals in different fields, including electric vehicles, batteries, solar technologies and renewable energies, electronics, nuclear energy, etc. A common feature of these metals and minerals is criticality as an approach based on assessing the risks associated with the production, use or end-of-life management of a raw material.
UNE, the Spanish member of the ISO, channels the position and influence of Spanish interests in global standards, which are key to the competitiveness of our sectors.
The video and presentations from the seminar are available in this space.
