The Spanish Association for Standardization and the Confederation of Consumers and Users (CECU) signed a partnership agreement on 21 April at UNE’s headquarters in an effort to raise public awareness about the impact and importance of standardization in consumers’ daily lives, and to promote the participation of civil society in the development processes of UNE standards, through social organizations that represent their interests and work for the common good.
The signing of the agreement, which lasts three years, was attended by UNE's Managing Director, Javier García, and the Director of CECU, David Sánchez.
It includes, among other actions, identifying standardization projects in development that have a direct impact on consumers in areas such as digitization, the circular economy, energy, food and mobility; defining groups in civil society that could potentially provide added value to the content of UNE standards; organizing briefings; and launching joint communication campaigns. All these actions will aim to inform, educate, train, protect, and defend the interests and rights of consumers and users, and particularly of those groups of people who are in vulnerable situations.
UNE and CECU have been collaborating since 2022 with the aim of bringing the benefits of standardization closer to consumers. As a result of this collaboration, they launched the informative brochure “Un día normal" to help consumers choose products that comply with technical standards that ensure their safety.
