The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, participates in the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme Sharework.
The Spanish standardisation body is leading the standardisation activities of this European project, through a consortium of 15 partners from 6 European countries, experts from the technology sector, industrial integration, standardisation, and manufacturing sectors, covering the entire value chain.
Standards will play an essential role in the effective integration of collaborative robotics into factories, to learn about risks and to develop guidelines for working safely.
Sharework will develop a modular and intelligent solution in Europe that will allow robots to interact physically with humans in a collaborative production environment. It is estimated that there are currently 2 million robots in the world, although the collaborators represent only 5,000 units.
This is designed to allow industries to have an artificial intelligence system designed to improve the efficiency of manufacturing processes, while guaranteeing worker safety.
This project will be applied in real industrial scenarios in the automotive, railway, metal and equipment manufacturing sectors.
The project, which will end on 31 October 2022, is financed by the European Commission and will be carried out in Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, France, Germany and Greece. It is part of the "Transforming European Industry" line of the Horizon 2020 programme, which aims to implement innovative artificial intelligence technologies to enable the effective collaboration of robots with workers.
The Sharework General Assembly took place at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (CNR) in Italy (Rome) on 22 and 23 October.
