UNE attends ISO Council meetings

27/02/2025

Javier García, the Director General of the Spanish Association for Standardisation, UNE, and Vice-President of the International Organisation for Standardisation, ISO, took part in the ISO Council meetings held in Geneva last week. They involved a lot of hard work and productive encounters. UNE is Spain's representative in ISO.

The ISO Council is the governing body responsible for strategic decisions and supervision that helps guide the development and implementation of international standards, ensuring that they meet all needs.

The ISO 2030 Strategy seeks to make people's lives easier, safer and better through standards. The priorities of ISO include the areas of sustainability, the environment and climate change as well as artificial intelligence.

The 24th World Standards Cooperation (WSC) meeting was also hosted, bringing together leaders from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), non-profit organisations, ISO and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to align international standards with global priorities. The discussions at this Meeting unpacked artificial intelligence, governance and digital transformation, including the Global Digital Compact, the AI Multimedia Authenticity Initiative and the International AI Standards Day at the ITU's AI for Good Summit.

ISO members and partners including UNE provide input and ideas at the ISO Council to help shape the future of international standards.
