Spain participates in the General Assemblies of CEN and CENELEC

01/07/2025

The Spanish Association for Standardisation, UNE, participated in the CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies in Luxembourg. UNE is the Spanish representative in the European standardisation organisations.

During the Assemblies, the role of technical standards as key tools for the implementation of the European Internal Market Strategy was ratified.

To this end, work will be carried out on developing more agile standards processes with a special focus on digitalisation, maintaining the values on which standardisation is based, such as openness, consensus and transparency, and ensuring the sustainability of the system.

In addition, it was emphasised that efforts should be made to strengthen the public-private partnership that promotes standardisation, in order to boost the competitiveness and innovation of European companies, as well as their leadership in the international arena. To this end, collaboration between European standardisation bodies and the European Commission will be key.

The importance of strengthening European quality infrastructure to help European organisations meet the challenges of sustainability and digitalisation was also highlighted. UNE (standardisation), CEM (metrology) and ENAC (accreditation) are the three institutional pillars of this quality infrastructure in Spain. Their joint work has improved the competitiveness of the Spanish productive fabric.
