The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) hosted an information session entitled “Quality infrastructure, a strategic tool for the public sector” at its headquarters in Atocha addressed to the staff of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies. The meeting, held on 27 November in the auditorium, explored the role of standardisation, accreditation and conformity assessment in public policy, procurement and regulatory implementation.
The conference was opened by Paula Fernández Rodríguez, Deputy Director General of Human Resources at MAPA, who underscored the importance of increasing awareness of Quality Infrastructure among Ministry staff to improve regulatory efficiency and legal certainty in daily administrative practice.
UNE professionals took part in the session to share the significance of standardisation in the public sector. Paloma García, Director of Standardisation Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement; Daniel Massó, Head of Knowledge Management and Agenda 2030; and Elena Ordozgoiti, Head of Agri-Food Business, addressed the relationship between UNE and MAPA and set out practical examples of using technical standards in procurement, legislation and regulatory activity.
The session also included a presentation of the course “Standardisation working for the public sector”, which will be kicked off in 2026. This training programme will provide public employees with a structured overview of how to build Quality Infrastructure into public policy design and implementation, including using technical standards, conformity assessment and accreditation.
The event wrapped up with a Q&A session in which attendees were able to raise their concerns and share their thoughts on the practical application of standardisation in their routine work. The initiative is part of the institutional partnership between MAPA and UNE to enhance technical training and foster more effective use of Quality Infrastructure in the public sector.
