Each year, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), whose national representative is the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, hands out the IEC 1906 Awards, in recognition of the work of experts from technical standardisation committees or conformity assessment systems.
In 2024, three Spanish experts received awards, having stood out for their outstanding contributions in different fields.
Rafael Portales (Hitachi Energy Spain) was nominated by the chairman and secretary of the Technical Committee IEC/TC 8 “System aspects of electrical energy supply", to reward his outstanding contribution to the development of a roadmap for the grid integration of renewable energies, as well as his involvement in the IEC/TC 8/SC 8A/AHG 3, JWG 4, JWG 5 and WG 7 groups. His excellent work to strengthen ties between SC 8A and the industrial sector was also highlighted.
Francisco Javier González (Westinghouse Electric Spain) was nominated by the chairman and secretary of the Technical Committee IEC/TC 117 "Solar thermal electric plants", in recognition of his leadership of IEC/TC 117/PT 62862-1-5, which led to publication of the standard IEC 62862-1-5:2024 "Solar thermal electric plants - Part 1-5: Performance test code for solar thermal electric plants". Javier also participates as an expert in other committee groups, and has been a Spanish delegate at several IEC/TC 117 plenary meetings.
Rakel Herrero Colmenero (NAITEC) was nominated by the chairman and secretary of the Technical Committee IEC/TC 119 "Printed electronics", in recognition of her involvement as head of delegation at the committee's plenary meetings for almost 10 years, particularly in the early stages, and her active work in the IEC/TC 119/WG 1, WG 2, WG 3, WG 4 and WG 5 working groups.
These distinctions in various industry fields highlight Spanish leadership in international electrotechnical standardisation.
