The Spanish Road Association (AEC) and the Carlos III University are leading the CITIES Timanfaya project, which aims to incorporate electric and autonomous vehicles in the Fire Mountains route. The vehicles that this project will use will increase both the active and passive safety levels for their occupants, and they will provide improvements in functionality and sustainability, with no harmful emissions being released into the ecosystem. In fact, it is estimated that their use on the Ruta de los Volcanes route will lead to a reduction of up to 469 tonnes a year in CO2 emissions.
