The Chairman of the Spanish Association for Standardisation, UNE, Alfredo Berges, and its CEO and Vice-President of ISO, Javier García, met with the Secretary of State for Energy, Joan Groizard, to promote the green and energy transition in Spain through standardisation.

UNE and the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge maintain a close and fruitful relationship, based on mutual trust and collaboration. The Ministry is a member of the Spanish standardisation body, participates in its Board of Directors and its Circular Economy Advisory Committee and leads the development of key standards to achieve the dual ecological and energy transition and promote the Spanish industry. Additionally, UNE is a member of the Advisory Council on Circular Economy of the Ministry.

During the meeting, they agreed on the importance of developing standards to support the Spanish industry in the framework of the energy policies of the State Secretariat for Energy. They stressed the idea that standardisation is a strategic tool for the ecological and energy transition in Spain.

Alfredo Berges and Javier García submitted the report “Support for Standardisation in the Ministry of Energy for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge", the aim of which is to give an overview of the support of standardisation in the Ministry's Energy area as a tool for the development of its regulations, policies and strategies.

Another topic discussed was Spain's international and European leadership in standardisation. Several Spaniards hold positions of responsibility in the governing bodies of international and European standardisation organisations. Furthermore, Spanish experts lead over 160 presidencies and secretariats of technical standardisation bodies within ISO, IEC, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI.

Accompanying the Secretary of State for Energy were the Director General of Energy Planning and Coordination, Víctor Marcos Morell, and the Director General of the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), Miguel Rodrigo.
