Meeting of the Electrotechnical Advisory Committee

26/03/2021

The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, has held the first meeting of the year of its Electrotechnical Advisory Committee. In line with previous meetings, national, European and international issues affecting the Spanish electrical and electronic industry were discussed.

The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures (SETID) was present at the event, having been recently incorporated into this Committee. Diego Oteo and Óscar Javier Suárez discussed different aspects of the application of the RED Directive at national level and the market surveillance framework, in which the SETID is the competent authority. The impact of the cybersecurity requirements of the Directive on products in the sector was also analysed.

The European issues discussed included the review of the "Blue Guide" on the implementation of EU products rules, and the review of the European Industrial Strategy. In both cases, once again highlighting the importance of harmonised standards and the sector's concern about delays in their citation in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Finally, a report was made on the situation of standards and conformity assessment for the placing of products on the British market as a result of Brexit and the role that the UK National Standards Body (BSI) will play in the future within CEN and CENELEC.
