Upcoming UNE Meeting: EU Market Surveillance Regulation

01/07/2021

At 10:30am on 6 July, the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, will hold the Meeting "Market Surveillance. Entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2019/1020."

On 16 July, the new European Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 on Market Surveillance and Product Conformity enters into force. The main novelty of this new regulation is the promotion of public-private collaboration between Market Surveillance Authorities and organisations representing economic operators in order to strengthen market surveillance in all EU countries.

The sale of unsafe products and services causes serious damage to the economy and consumers, creating unfair competition for serious, compliant companies.

Precisely to strengthen public-private collaboration, UNE has launched the Market Surveillance Observatory, with the participation of more than 30 relevant Spanish business organisations and the Ministries of Consumer Affairs, Industry, Trade and Tourism, and Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation. The OVM is a unique opportunity to establish a basis for collaboration between companies, authorities and market watchers based on mutual trust and with a common goal.

Compliance with standards and legislation is essential to avoiding harm to the economy and consumers alike. Standards and legislation provide market credibility, spur on industrial activity, and provide a guarantee for consumers.

At the event, leading experts from public administrations and economic sectors will provide all the keys to ensuring the success of this new era.
