The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, and the Spanish Association of Pulp and Paper Manufacturers, ASPAPEL, organized a webinar on the Contribution of standards to improving competitiveness and innovation in companies, the findings of which are now available.
The aim of the webinar is to bring standardization closer to those companies and organizations that are part of the paper sector's value chain, and to show the benefits of using existing standards, or the opportunity to develop new ones, that contribute to the competitiveness and innovation of industry.
Manuel Dominguez, General Director of ASPAPEL, welcomed all the participants and highlighted how important standardization is, and will be in the future, to ASPAPEL.
Paloma García, Director of Standardization Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement at UNE, then spoke about the two goals of the webinar: to leverage the opportunities offered by the standardization system and the possibility of developing standards for the common needs of the sector to enhance its competitiveness, improve its image and save costs through their use; and to offer the possibility of bringing innovative results closer to the market through standards or pre-normative documents that include innovative solutions.
In addition, three success stories were presented: UNE 149002:2022, Acceptance criteria for disposable products via toilet, presented by Paula Amunarriz, Head of the Quality Department at PAPEL ARALAR; Standard UNE-EN 643:2014 Paper and board. European list of standard quality paper and cardboard for recycling, presented by Gloria Lázaro Abad, Director of REPACAR; and the importance of standardization in the field of food safety applied to the paper sector, presented by Maika Gómez Almenar, Head of the Chemical Analysis and Microbiology Laboratories at ITENE.
The webinar was moderated by María José Gutierrez, Secretary of CTN-UNE 57 "Cellulose and paper". Many of the companies in the paper value chain were present, who rated the webinar highly in the subsequent survey.
