The Spanish Association of Standardization has published two new UNE standards for the inspection of low voltage electrical installations in garages. Specifically, Standards UNE 192007-2-29-2 Procedures for regulatory inspection. Low voltage electrical installations. Part 2-29-2: Garages, and UNE 202009-29-2 Methodology for the verification and inspection of low voltage electrical installations in garages. Both standards were drawn up in the Standards Technical Committees CTN-UNE 192/SC 07 Procedures for regulatory inspection. Low voltage electrical installations and CTN- UNE 202/SC 64 Electrical installations and protection against electric shock, respectively. The Head of these Committees is the AFME (Association of Manufacturers of Electrical infrastructure products and equipment).
UNE standards are a solid support for Public Administrations in the effective development of the regulations, thus allowing companies to easily comply with the guidelines.
These series of standards are aimed at specifying the criteria and procedures to be applied in regulatory inspections, verifications before commissioning and any other review that the inspector, installer, designer or works director may carry out. Specifically, these new standards focus on electrical installations in garages, a type of installation with very specific requirements. This type of installation does not have a specific Complementary Technical Instruction (ITC-BT) within the Low-Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT). However, their case study is included in the ITC-BT-29, which establishes the specific requirements for electrical installations in premises with a risk of fire or explosion. With the exception of garages for private use for parking of 5 vehicles or fewer, the ITC-BT-29 classifies garages as Class I sites.
The UNE 192007-2-29-2 Standard complements or modifies the corresponding chapters and sections of the UNE 192007-1 Standard on general requirements and provides a specific inspection procedure applicable to low voltage electrical installations in garages.
Standard UNE 202009-29-2 is aimed at providing a guide for the verification and inspection of low voltage electrical installations in garages, as per Guidelines BT-29 issued by the REBT in 2002, facilitating a methodology for verification/inspection and providing the documentation for recording the conditions and values of verification/inspection (non-conformities, damage, deterioration and dangerous conditions, etc.).
The representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism (MINTUR), the Generalitat of Catalonia, control bodies, associations and companies in the sector participated in the drafting of these standards.
