The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, national representative of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), hosted the plenary meeting of the European Committee for Standardization of Concrete and Related Products, CEN TC 104, at its headquarters on 24 and 25 June.
The attendees included over 50 experts from different European countries, including representatives from public entities, governments, international organisations, standardisation bodies, private companies, research centres, laboratories and academia.
This committee actively participates in the CPR-ACQUIS working group established by the European Commission, whose objective is to define the requirements that the future application for concrete standardisation issued by the European Commission must contain which, in turn, will define the content of harmonised concrete standards.
Since its creation, Spain has been actively contributing to the work of this Committee, providing its knowledge of the national sector. Both the national activity and the contributions to the different works developed in the European committee are carried out in the UNE Concrete Committee (CTN-UNE 83), with ANEFHOP acting as secretary. This consolidates the European leadership of Spanish standardisation.
An example of the high level of involvement of Spanish industry in the committee is the participation of more than twenty experts in its various working groups.
During the meeting, the various working groups of the European committee reported on the progress of their activities.
Also, the current situation of the CPR-ACQUIS concrete group was presented and information was shared on the tasks to be addressed in the upcoming phases of work.
The CEN TC 104/SC1 meeting was also held at UNE. This subcommittee on specifications, performance, production and conformity is responsible, among other matters, for revision of the EN 206 standard, which defines concrete specifications, and is therefore especially important for the sector.
