The new European standard on ICT accessibility, in Spanish

The new CEN-CENELEC-ETSI JWG eAccessibility European standard on ICT accessibility is now available in Spanish. The Secretariat of this standard is managed by the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE). The UNE-EN 301549:2020 Accessibility requirements for ICT products and services, is the review of the previous edition (2019), which is fundamental to the public sector.

This regulation will provide presumption of conformity for the essential requirements of the Web Accessibility Directive (EU) 2016/2102, transposed in Spain, on the accessibility of websites and apps for public sector mobile devices.

The accessibility requirements of websites and mobile applications are indicated in tables A.1 and A.2 of UNE-EN 301549: 2020. However, this standard can be applied to all ICT products and services. The standard still has the WCAG 2.1 of W3C as its main reference, and has been revised to update it to the latest developments. However, the main improvement is the inclusion of a new E Annex, which explains the document in a simple way and how to use it.

Another change of draft is that relating to chapter 14, on compliance, given that if a requirement cannot be met for an ICT product or service because it is not applicable, it will no longer be considered that it complies with the standard to which, for these sections, is not applicable.

Furthermore, accessibility requirements are established for the built environment of the ICT device, pincodes for ATMs, ticket dispensers or payment methods.

The challenge for future editions is the inclusion of verifiable cognitive accessibility requirements.
