The European Commission holds the High-Level Forum on Standardisation

27/01/2023

In order to reflect collectively on the priorities of standardisation in support of the EU single market for the coming years, the European Commission organised the first meeting of the High-Level Forum on Standardisation on 20 January. Chaired by the Commissioner for the Internal Market and Industry, Thierry Breton, the event brought together more than 50 members, high-ranking representatives from industry, public administrations, civil society, academia and standardisation, including the presidents of CEN and CENELEC.

This forum will provide advice to the Commission to set the guidelines and priorities of the EU's annual work programme on standardisation, with a special focus on supporting standardisation in the green and digital transition and the resilience of the European market, as well as continuing the process of harmonising European policy priorities, innovation and industrial investment activities and standardisation actions.

In the framework of the European Standardisation Strategy published in February 2022, the Commission recognises the vital role of standardisation as a tool to facilitate the EU single market, promote innovation, competitiveness and strengthen Europe's role in the leadership of world trade.
