The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, strengthens its position in the CEN and CENELEC governing bodies, with the re-election of Javier García, General Director of UNE and Óscar Querol, General Director of the Association of Electrical Equipment Manufacturers (AFME) to the Boards of Directors, during the recently held General Assemblies of these two European standardisation organisations in Amsterdam.

The Spanish delegation in Amsterdam consisted of Javier García, Óscar Querol, Mónica Sanzo and Miguel Ángel Aranda. The CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies were a forum for debate on the latest developments in the digital development of standards and SMART products and services. And actions to strengthen trust in the European Standardisation Framework with all its key partners, and in particular with the European Commission.
In addition, the review of Regulation (EC) No. 1025, the actions of the High-Level Forum on European Standardisation, and the search for common solutions together with the international standardisation bodies ISO and IEC, will set the trend for standardisation in the coming months.
Spanish standardisation is a world leader. Several Spanish experts hold leading positions in the governing bodies of international and European standardisation organisations, and hold more than 150 duties in technical bodies, led by Javier García. In addition, there are an increasing number of Spanish UNE standards that serve as a basis for the development of global standards.
These responsibilities place Spain as a leader in standardisation in fields as diverse as tourism, healthcare, renewable energies, smart cities, electrical and electronic products, footwear, sustainable construction, heat pumps and barbecues, among others.
Numerous international and national studies have shown that standards have economic benefits. These data reflect the importance of leading international and European standards, which have a direct effect on increasing international trade, boosting the competitiveness of the Spanish productive fabric and improving the Spain Brand.
