ISO celebrates 75 years bringing the world’s standards bodies together

In 1947, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) held its first meeting to discover the most efficient techniques to promote the most effective technology. Now, in 2022, it is celebrating its 75 anniversary having successfully integrated ISO standards into nearly all aspects of our lives, making it easier, safer and better.

Since its foundation, the members of ISO have quadrupled and are now established in 166 countries. These organisations are committed to implementing standards that facilitate global trade, promote best business practices and help organisations overcome significant challenges in areas such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), good governance, innovation and internationalization. The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, is the Spanish member of the ISO.

Spanish representation in the ISO was reinforced last year with the appointment of Javier García, the current Managing Director of the UNE, as new Vice-President of Technical Management of the ISO, thus becoming the first Spaniard to hold this post.
