MAPA and UNE sign a collaboration agreement to boost the digital transformation of Spain's agri-food sector.

12/09/2025

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) have signed a collaboration agreement to boost the digital transformation of Spain’s agri-food sector. The agreement will focus on the development and standardization of data-driven agri-food systems through the Technical Standardization Committee CTN-UNE 335.

The main goal of this collaboration is to support the effective operation of CTN-UNE 335 and the development of UNE standardization documents. These documents, which may be of national origin or adapted from European and international standards, will serve as guidance and support for all actors across the ecosystem.

In addition, the agreement actively seeks to promote the participation of all stakeholders – from producers to technology companies and public bodies – ensuring that the technical standards developed meet the sector’s real needs and enable an inclusive and effective digital transition.

The standardization of data will allow the agri-food sector to improve its data-driven decision-making, optimizing processes and resources to address future challenges. Interoperability and standardization are crucial steps towards building a stronger, smarter agri-food ecosystem that is better equipped to face the challenges of the digital age.

This strategic alliance strengthens the commitment of both organizations to modernize the sector, increase its competitiveness and ensure that professionals have the tools they need for more efficient and sustainable management. It also fosters the adoption of new technologies across the entire value chain, thereby reducing the technical barriers currently hindering the sector’s digitization.
