The Spanish Association for Standardization, as a national member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is collaborating on the preparation of a future international ISO standard on gender equality in order to combine a set of directives to promote and implement gender equality and empower women in companies and all types of organizations. More than 50 experts from 60 countries are working together to develop the first global standard in this field.
This initiative, which is being developed by ISO Project Committee PC 337, was launched in September 2021 under the leadership of France, through its national standardization body AFNOR. In 2022, the project received more than 700 comments, demonstrating the high interest that this future standard is attracting. A new round of comments (ISO/DIS phase) is now open in order to get more countries to contribute and thus enhance the future standards, which is scheduled to be published in spring 2024.
To advertise the future ISO 53800 standard, the International Advisory Group on Communication and Engagement, led by Spain and coordinated by EJE&CON, has prepared an informative brochure that outlines the work model and the resources that the standard makes available to those organizations that want to use it.
Spanish organizations that are interested can take part in its development through UNE, which, as a member of ISO, can channel their interests and present their concerns at international forums. They can do so via email to info@une.org.
Equality policies represent a commitment to society and help improve results in organizations in terms of personnel turnover, productivity and innovation, effective collaboration, market expansion and other areas.
