23/04/2025

The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, hosted the Data Management Summit Tour Madrid international event at its headquarters on 23 April, organized by Synergo. This is one of the leading gatherings of data management professionals in the world.

The Director of UNE's Standardization Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement, Paloma García, welcomed the attendees and explained how UNE contributes to the shared progress of society through the development of technical standards and international cooperation activities. Following her remarks, a series of presentations, group exercises and discussions took place, in which different experts presented the latest trends and tools in data management.

The specific round table on standardization: “UNE Standards-A Lighthouse in the Dark for Companies That Want to Get Value from Their Data" featured José Antonio Jiménez, UNE's Digitization coordinator. He highlighted the crucial role of UNE standards in data management, in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. Standards offer organizations a guide to progress towards a solid, structured, transparent and reliable data culture; they guarantee interoperability, quality and sustainability in data management processes, and their impact on long-term business success.

In addition, Michele lurillo, founder of Data Management Summit and vice-president of DAMA Spain, explained how innovation and standards are strategic tools for managing data effectively in organizations.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alonso Peña, Director of the Design, Innovation and Operations Division at the Data Directorate General of the State Secretariat for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, highlighted the importance of the UNE Data Specifications promoted by the Government of Spain.

Also taking part were Christian Cobas, from the Data Office in the Government of Castilla-La Mancha; Ismael Caballero, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha; José Miguel Caballero, Nunsys; Daniel Torbellino, Cloudera; and Alicia González, National Geographic Institute.

The DMS Tour consists of a series of travelling events that bring best practices and solutions in data management to key cities across Europe. With a practical and interactive approach, it provides access to expert knowledge, fosters high-level networking, and offers attendees the opportunity to engage in-depth with industry leaders.
