CEN and CENELEC's commitment to strengthening the single market with technical standards

29/07/2024

The European standardization bodies CEN and CENELEC, whose Spanish member is UNE, have shared their Declaration for the next legislative cycle (2024-2029). It calls on European institutions to commit to priorities that enable the proper functioning of the single market, backed by a solid European System for Standardization, in keeping with the European Standardization Strategy.

The Declaration identifies three pillars: renew the commitment to a strong and competitive single market; transform Europe to achieve the goal of net zero and digitization through standardization; and strengthen European leadership through standardization.

European standards help guarantee the safety and quality of products, support economic growth and facilitate international trade. The European Standardization System offers a framework to support Europe's competitiveness and strategic autonomy, it facilitates the dissemination of innovation and guarantees that European and international standards are consistent with the interests and values of Europe.
