An RD&I project the UNE is involved in wins the 2023 European standards and innovation award from CEN and CENELEC

26/10/2023

The European RD&I Dynamic Digital Energy Performance project (dynamic digital energy performance certificates), funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme, has won the Standards+Innovation award presented by the European standardisation organisations CEN and CENELEC. The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, is participating in this project as a standardisation partner.

This project won the award due to its coordination work with European standardisation activities, which has led to the creation of a new working group in the CEN/TC 371 "Energy performance of buildings" committee. This working group, which is managed by the UNE and coordinated by the Frederick Research Center (Cyprus), focuses on the "Operational Classification of the energy efficiency of buildings". It also works on the development of its first EN standard on this area, based on the results obtained by the project.

These annual awards recognize the important contribution of research and innovation to standardization, as well as the work of researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs. The awards are granted to outstanding projects and individuals that have been nominated by national members of CEN and CENELEC, including the UNE.

UNE, at the EU "Making research results work for society" conference

These awards were presented at the "Making research results work for society" Conference that the EU organised on 26 October in Brussels, in which the head of the UNE's RD&I unit, Fernando Utrilla, participated.

During his speech, Fernando Utrilla talked about the UNE's practical experience in more than one hundred projects such as H2020 and HORIZON Europe, as well as the Code of Practice on Standardisation recommendations and the next steps needed to prevent researchers and innovators from losing out on this useful and simple tool to add value to their project results.

This conference was designed jointly with various research and innovation agents and includes their contributions, which were submitted in a public call for contributions. This event was a forum for exchanging ideas, experiences and opinions on success factors and obstacles to fully implement the guiding principles.

This event forms part of the knowledge valorisation awareness campaign organised jointly by the European Commission and European Union Member States. This initiative aims to inform research and innovation agents about the recent Council Recommendation on the knowledge valorisation guiding principles, the Commission's Recommendations on the Code of good practice for the management of intellectual property and the Code of good practice in standardisation.
