The CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies met on 25 November in Palermo (Italy) and confirmed by majority vote the continued membership of the British Standards Institution (BSI) in the European standardization bodies from 1 January 2022. This decision is made following the UK's departure from the European Union (Brexit) and is consistent with the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) reached between the United Kingdom and the EU.
UNE, as a Spanish member of CEN and CENELEC, welcomes this decision, as it contributes to limiting further technical barriers to trade for Spanish companies and economic sectors.
The continuity of BSI in CEN and CENELEC provides stability and confidence in the European standardization system, safeguarding the principles of standardization and providing companies on both sides with seamless access to their markets.
In this way, the BSI standardization body will continue to participate and contribute to the development of standards in Europe.
