The IEC/SC 23E international standardisation technical committee, Circuit-breakers and similar equipment for household use, of the International Electrotechnical Commission, has elected Spaniard Beatriz Novel as its new President for the next 6 years.
Beatriz is Deputy Technical Director at the Spanish Association of Electrical Equipment Manufacturers (AFME) and Secretary of the technical standardisation committee CTN 201 on switchgear and low-voltage accessories at the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE. In addition, since 2012, she has managed the presidency of the European analogue committee TC 23E at CENELEC.
The IEC/SC 23E Committee draws up safety standards for automatic circuit-breakers for domestic use. It is currently focusing its activity on the development of standards for the protection equipment for electric vehicle charging, both in the cable and at the charging station and on the protection for use in continuous current systems (differential relays, automatic switches and arc fault detectors).
This appointment is a recognition of Beatriz's great work since 2003 in the IEC international committee as a Spanish delegate and expert.
The choice is fundamental to maintaining the leadership and influence of the Spanish electrical equipment manufacturers industry in key global standards for the competitiveness of the sector.
The Spanish standardisation body is the voice for experts from organisations in our country at European and international forums at which key standards are discussed for the competitiveness of Spanish economic sectors. Spanish experts head around 130 international and European technical standardisation bodies.
