This week, the Director General of UNE and Vice President of the International Organization for Standardization, Javier García, led the meetings of the ISO Technical Management Board (TMB) held in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.
The Technical Management Board of ISO, the Chairman of which is Javier García, is the governing body responsible for the general management of the Technical Standardisation Committees and the global standards they draw up.
This governing body debated proposals and agreed on strategies to promote international standards that effectively address the major challenges faced by society and organisations, such as the dual ecological and digital transition, climate change, artificial intelligence, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria, or internationalisation and access to global markets. Many of these decisions have been taken in collaboration with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), demonstrating once again that consensus is the key to progress, since when ideas are aligned, solutions become possible.
The ISO Technical Management Board also met with the Federación de Industrias del Estado de Bahía (FIEB) to exchange views on the contribution of ISO standards in ESG matters. This meeting was promoted by the host in Brazil, the Asociación Brasileña de Normas Técnicas (ABNT).
The ISO 2030 Strategy, which is aligned with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aims to make people's lives easier, safer, and better through standards.
International leadership
Spanish standardisation is a world leader. Several Spanish experts, led by Javier García, hold executive positions in the governing bodies of international and European standardisation organisations. In addition, Spanish experts lead 161 responsibilities in technical bodies. In addition, there are an increasing number of Spanish UNE standards that serve as a basis for the development of global standards.
