The Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE), has received the AMETIC Award for Business Excellence in Quantum Technologies 2022 in the framework of the 36th Digital Economy and Telecommunications Conference, organised by AMETIC, Banco Santander and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP). Paloma García, UNE's Director of Standardisation Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement, received the award from Pedro Mier, chairman of AMETIC, and Alfonso Rubio-Manzanares, vice-chairman of the Innovation Committee and coordinator of the AMETIC Quantum Technologies Working Group.
With this award, AMETIC distinguishes the launch of the UNE Committee on Quantum Technologies, which develops standards that will promote quantum technologies. The award recognises the relevance and need of this standardisation initiative.
The UNE committee is responsible for standardisation in the area of quantum technologies, covering aspects such as terminology and vocabulary, computing, architecture, application, algorithms and quantum internet, as well as user scenarios. This UNE committee is the channel for influence and participation of Spanish organisations in the European committees international standardisation bodies CEN ( European Committee for Standardization), CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) and ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) as well as the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and ITU (International Telecommunications Union).
Digital transformation
UNE contributes to accelerating the digital transformation process of Spanish companies with the development of standards in areas such as telecommunications infrastructures, cybersecurity, digital enabling technologies, talent and digital health, in support of the Digital Spain 2025 Agenda.
Standards establish a common language and provide quality, security and interoperability of products and services, through robust and reliable frameworks. More information in the report Supporting Standardisation for Digital Transformation, downloadable from the UNE website.
