Spain is the most competitive country in the world according to the World Economic Forum's 2019 Tourism Competitiveness Index. From a total of 140 economies worldwide, Spain holds this important position for the third consecutive period (previously 2015 and 2017).
The Tourism Competitiveness Index is designed to collect and measure a wide range of factors and policies that influence a country's ability to sustainably compete globally in travel and tourism. This, in turn, contributes to the development and competitiveness of a country.
The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, contributes to promoting the quality and competitiveness of Spanish tourism through various standards that help companies in the sector to achieve international standards of quality, safety, professionalism and accessibility. UNE is a key factor in the design of the new Spanish tourism model. For example, it participates in UNETUR, promoted by the State Secretariat for Tourism. Its objective is to provide consistency and value in the integrated Spanish tourism quality model and it has the support of SEGITTUR, ICTE, ITH and UNE.
