On Monday 8 April, the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, and Unión Profesional (UP) met to share their ideas for standardisation in educational establishments. The meeting, held at the UNE headquarters, is part of the collaboration framework signed by both parties on 17 November 2023, with a view to promoting the benefits of standardation in educational establishments.
Present at the meeting were Alfredo Berges, Chairman of UNE; Victoria Ortega, President of Unión Profesional; Juan Carlos Estévez, Secretary General of Unión Profesional; Javier García, the Director General of UNE and Vice-President of ISO; Paloma García Director of Standardization Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement at UNE; Marta Fernández, Head of the UNE Committee on Ethics, Governance and Social Responsibility of organisations; José Antonio Galdón, Vice-President of Unión Profesional; as well as various associates of Unión Profesional participating in standardisation: the General Council of Economists; the General Council of the Industrial Technical Engineers Association in Spain (COGITI); the General Council of the Official Associations of Labour relations and Social Security law; the General Council of Official Medical Associations; and the Official Association of Telecommunications Technicians (COITT).
Among the topics discussed in the various interventions were the contribution of the Spanish standardisation body to shared social progress and how technical standards provide an effective response to the major challenges facing Spanish business sectors; the usefulness of standards for educational corporations and education professions; the lines of collaboration of professional councils and associations; the standardisation process and the ongoing standards programmes on Governance, Compliance and clear language.
Unión Profesional is the alliance of professional associations in Spain, created in 1980 with the aim of defending the common interests of professions and the coordinated achievement of social functions. UP covers the legal, economic, health, social, scientific, education, architecture and engineering sectors. It currently comprises 34 General and Upper Councils and State Professional Associations with more than 1,200 professional associations and regional delegations that group together 1,500,000 licensed professionals in Spain.
UNE is a global organisation whose purpose is to develop technical standards or rules that contribute to shared progress of society and the creation of a safer, more sustainable and competitive world.
With the participation of more than 13,000 professionals in its working groups, UNE is the Spanish representative in international (ISO and IEC), European (CEN-CENELEC and ETSI) and American (COPANT) standardisation bodies.
