15/01/2025

The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, participated on Wednesday 15 January in the 7th National Industry Congress, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism at the Barcelona International Convention Centre. This new edition addressed the role of Spanish industry and SMEs in achieving greater strategic autonomy in line with the current challenges of the EU.

Paloma García, Director of Standardization Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement at UNE, highlighted the essential role of UNE standards in Spain's quality infrastructure and in supporting Spain's strategic autonomy, in line with the new Industry Act. She spoke during the round table discussion, "Quality Infrastructure in Strategic Autonomy", moderated by José Manuel Prieto, Deputy Director General of Quality and Industrial Safety at the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

The Spanish Metrology Centre (CEM), the Spanish National Accreditation Body (ENAC) and UNE form the three basic pillars of quality infrastructure in Spain. The joint work of these three entities in metrology, accreditation and standardization will boost the competitiveness of Spanish productivity and provide security for the population.

Together with Paloma García, the speakers included: Beatriz Rivera, Managing Director of ENAC; César Luaces Frades, Director General of PRIMIGEA; and María Teresa Linaza, coordinator of the Enabling Technologies Working Group of the Industry 4.0 Commission at VICOMTECH.
