Madrid, 20 November 2023 - The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, and the Professional Union have signed a collaboration agreement to improve the benefits of standards for licensed professions. To this end, the Professional Union will participate in establishing standards developed within UNE, the Spanish standardisation body, aimed at meeting the needs of licensed professions and responding to the interests of society as a whole.
The Professional Union comprises 34 General and Upper Councils and State Professional Associations. Together, they comprise more than 1,200 professional associations and regional delegations that group together 1,500,000 licensed professional from all over the country. The union covers the legal, health, economic, social, scientific, architecture, engineering and teaching sectors, with an interdisciplinary and holistic approach. The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, is responsible for developing technical standards in Spain and is the Spanish representative to international and European standardisation organizations.
SIGNING THE AGREEMENT
The signing ceremony was attended by UNE Chair Alfredo Berges; Julián Caballero, the Deputy Director General of UNE; and the Professional Union Chair Victoria Ortega.
UNE Chair Alfredo Berges highlighted that "the Spanish Association for Standardization seeks to develop technical regulations or standards that contribute to the shared progress of society and to the creation of a safer, more sustainable and competitive world through dialogue and collaboration between economic sectors and public administrations".
Meanwhile, the Chair of the Professional Union, Victoria Ortega, pointed out the commitment of licensed professions to the philosophy of ecosystems that guarantee rights for citizens: "Licensed professions have the duty and willingness to find out about the technical standards that can guarantee fair and balanced competition within society, and together, we are committed to adopting standards within the licensed professions field."
Within the framework of this agreement, UNE and the Professional Union agree to carry out a series of activities, including participating in the work spaces common to both associations, in order to provide experts in the different areas, as well as specialist knowledge and experience to enrich any studies or reports that may be conducted. They will also collaborate in face-to-face and online training and information activities for licensed professionals to provide basic training in standardisation.
In addition, they will design and participate in events and discussion forums in line with the professional network that aim to raise awareness of strategic issues, such as good governance, transparency, consumer and user protection, the environment and equality.
