UNE presenta su Estrategia 2030 para lograr un mayor impacto de las normas en la sociedad

23/07/2025

  • It is based on three strategic objectives: Get the knowledge in the standards working for Spain's shared progress; promoting awareness of the benefits of standards and their implementation; bringing stability to UNE by tailoring the financing model to the evolving context.
  • The 2030 Strategy of the Spanish Standardisation Association (UNE), approved by its members at the General Assembly, is based on three objectives and 14 priorities, with which the entity will fulfill its purpose: contribute to the shared progress of society.
  • To achieve the Strategy, UNE will expand the scope of its activities and generate solutions to facilitate their implementation, focusing on highlighting the benefits of standards: standardisation contributes 14.7% to average annual GDP growth in Spain.

Madrid, 23 July 2025 - The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, has launched its 2030 Strategy, which aims to achieve a greater impact of regulations on the economy and society.

This ambitious plan, approved by UNE members at the General Assembly, is based on three strategic objectives: Get the knowledge in the standards working for Spain's shared progress; promote communication and support for the application of standards; bringing stability to UNE by tailoring the financing model to the evolving context.

With these, the Spanish organisation seeks to expand the scope of its standardisation activities and effectively address the major challenges facing Spanish organisations, promoting the development of solutions that facilitate their implementation. To do so, it will adapt the content of the standards to its needs using the new tools offered by digitalisation and, in particular, artificial intelligence (AI).

UNE Vice President Luis Rodulfo stated: “The UNE 2030 Strategy is a roadmap that clearly sets out, with an appropriate level of detail, the steps we must take in the coming years to fulfil our purpose: to contribute to shared progress in society and to the creation of a safer, more sustainable and competitive world through the development of standards”.

The definition of the UNE Strategy 2026-2030 takes into account the elements that define the geopolitical, economic, digital, social, legal and environmental context in which standardisation and cooperation activities must contribute to its achievement. In addition, consideration has been given to the contribution of UNE and technical standards to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

These strategic objectives reflect UNE's ambition to continue providing unique value to Spanish society and the Spanish economy, consolidating its positive impact. In fact, standardisation contributes 14.7% to Spain's average annual GDP growth, which translates into a contribution of more than €140 billion over the last four decades, according to the recent study ‘Economic Impact of Standardisation in Spain’, carried out by the Centre for Industrial Strategy and Prospective Studies (CEPI), an entity promoted by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the EOI Foundation.

These three strategic objectives are:

1 Get the knowledge in the technical standards working for Spain's shared progress

To achieve this, UNE has set five priorities: strengthen Standards as a service for public and private entities; address the challenges faced by Spanish enterprises with an updated catalogue of standards aligned with their needs. promote international and European leadership of Spanish standardisation; develop a balanced ecosystem of collaborative alliances between the public, private and civil society sectors; and be a model of good corporate governance

UNE is the repository of the best knowledge generated by the 12,500 experts from Spanish organisations who participate in the development of standards in the 200 UNE Committees.

2 Promote awareness of the benefits of standards and their implementation

UNE will strengthen communication about the benefits of the standards and generate solutions to facilitate their implementation through five priorities: increase the application of standards in support of public authorities to simplify legislation and public policy deployment; ensure that the content of the standards is tailored to the needs of market application; promote publicising and applying standards through national, international and multilateral cooperation actions, setting out a roadmap for reputational and economic growth; promote a culture of compliance with standards by supporting market surveillance and conformity assessment in the framework of the Quality Infrastructure; and enhance UNE's communication.

3 Bring stability to UNE by tailoring the financing model to the evolving context

Through the contribution of all stakeholders in its value chain. The third objective is based on four priorities: achieve a greater financial contribution from government to UNE's sustainability; ensure input from the exploitation of standards content to UNE's sustainability in the changing environment of user requirements; increase the contribution of cooperation projects by setting financial and reputational return targets; analyse other potential organic growth streams derived from the value generated by UNE
