Madrid, 28 June 2022 - The Spanish Association for Standardisation-UNE, has published the first standard of its kind in the world, intended to help organizations integrate management systems and frameworks with best practices in the field of Information Technology (ICT), and thus promote good corporate governance.
The UNE 71401 IN Technical Report, written by the UNE Committee on IT Services Management and IT Governance - CTN 71/SC 40 - focuses on incorporating all types of knowledge on the management of ICT.
In the last 30 years, technology has grown exponentially, and ICT has become essential to adapting business models to society's changing reality. The market has been creating management compendia and standards for all these areas, compiling proven best practices on the subject of IT governance and management. "A lot of knowledge has been created involving the best ways to manage technology and its services, security, privacy, data governance, people, projects, etc., but it has not been fully exploited. With this document, we aim to provide organizations with a simple way to incorporate existing best practices in ICT to solve their specific problems", explains Amanda Suo, Cybersecurity Manager. ICT project manager at UNE.
This document presents the state of the art on how organizations are adopting and integrating standards-based ICT management systems, adopting recognized management frameworks and implementing specific best practices. It discusses building on the foundation of standards-based management systems (UNE-EN ISO 9001, UNE-ISO/IEC 20000, UNE-EN ISO/IEC 27000, etc.) in order to incorporate the necessary aspects of other management frameworks (ITIL®, COBIT®, Scrum, etc.) and specific best practices (BM Canvas, Design Thinking, etc.).
In preparing this technical report, the Committee worked closely with leading organizations to adopt and implement ICT management standards and best practices, with the goal of understanding how they are conducting their digital transformation initiatives. This analysis goes in depth into how initiatives are organized, the objectives set and the role of leadership. "Governing and managing a technological environment is very complex, so this manual's contribution is very valuable, especially for IT managers and professionals", she adds.
Digital transformation is one of the UNE's strategic priorities for 2025. The aim is not only to create standards suited to the digital economy, but also to promote digitization in order to meet the needs of organizations and to make it possible for everyone to take part in standardization processes.
