Madrid, 8 April 2025. The Spanish Association for Standardisation, UNE, the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the European standardisation bodies CEN and CENELEC will host on 28 and 29 April the international conference “Academic Standards Day Madrid 2025", an event which comes under the European Edu4Standards project financed by the Horizon Europe programme. It will take place at the UPM School of Telecommunications Engineers (ETSIT). Madrid will welcome the first international forum on standardisation, innovation and higher education.

Addressed to university students, teachers, researchers and industry professionals, it will provide insight into the strategic role of standards in innovation, higher education and industrial development through talks, panel discussions, interactive activities and networking venues.

Standardisation education is gaining increasing prominence in Europe and internationally. The European Standardisation Strategy includes training as one of its five cornerstones and is driving the development of teaching materials, active engagement of teachers and actions such as holding academic standardisation events. Similarly, the European Guiding Principles for Knowledge Valorisation cover similar actions, promoting the use of standardisation as a means of transferring R&D&I breakthroughs to society.

The programme for 28 April is aimed at university students, who will enter a prize draw for 20 gift cards. Talks with experts and interactive games will enable them to find out about the impact of standardisation on their professional future, discover how standards are embedded in their daily lives and put their knowledge to the test.

The session on 29 April is for teachers and researchers, who will learn innovative techniques for building standardisation into teaching and explore its role as a key tool in Europe's social and economic transformation.
