On 11 June, the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) and the UAB School of Archival Science and Document Management (ESAGED) held a free webinar entitled "Information Governance and Document Management Systems". The presentation was given by Carlota Bustelo Ruesta, chair of the CTN-UNE 50/SC 1 Technical Standardisation Committee and an international leader in document management, who highlighted the importance of robust regulatory frameworks to guarantee the authenticity, integrity and availability of corporate information.
Throughout the session, Bustelo explained how the ISO 30301 family of standards, and its alignment with other standards such as ISO 15489 and ISO 16175, makes document management the cornerstone of an effective information governance strategy. During her presentation, she emphasised the importance of proper implementation to facilitate not only regulatory compliance and reduce audit risks, but also to turn data into an asset capable of generating added value for the organisation.
The meeting brought together professionals from the fields of archiving, compliance, and information technology, who shared their concerns about automation, digital preservation, and data protection during a lively Q&A session. The international presence highlighted the importance of the topic, which is why many ISO/TC 46/SC 11 standards are available in Spanish in our catalogue.
With this activity, UNE and ESAGED inaugurated a joint cycle aimed at bringing information management standards closer to the professional community; Upcoming sessions will delve into new challenges and best practices in the sector.
