On 18 June, the Spanish Association for Standardization held the UNE Meeting "Standards support for the digitization of the agri-food chain", at which the standardization work being developed in the field of Smart Farming at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was presented.
The digitisation of the agri-food sector and its entire value chain is nowadays a requirement and a new Technical Committee, ISO/TC 347 "Data driven agrifood systems", has been created at ISO. The committee addresses the standardisation of data in the agri-food system to support informed decision-making in the context of a complex and changing world. This includes the development of reference data architecture, semantic infrastructure, management of livestock data, greenhouses, as well as integrated pest management, among many other factors. We are looking at a long-term standardisation process that will have a major impact.
The aim of the session was to determine the national interest in this international initiative and to promote the creation of a Technical Committee for Standardisation within the framework of UNE, a mirror of the ISO Committee, which will defend and channel the Spanish position in the international forum.
