The Spanish Association for Standardization and the Spanish Association of Automobile and Lorry Manufacturers held a UNE-ANFALUM Webinar on 11 April: "Electric vehicle safety standards and the importance of regulations".
The recent approval of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 concerning batteries and waste batteries lays down mandatory requirements relating to sustainability, security, labelling, marking and information, to allow the introduction of batteries on the market or the commissioning of batteries, as well as minimum requirements with regard to the producer's expanded responsibility, collection and treatment of battery or battery waste and communication of information.
The speakers gave an overview of the value chain of automotive batteries and the challenges facing this industry, as well as the importance of the development of international standards that will be referenced in European regulation.
Among the conclusions of the online seminar, standardisation was presented as a lever to help this value chain find efficient solutions to meet these requirements.
