The Spanish Association for Standardisation, UNE, and the Ministry of Industry and Tourism hosted the "New European Construction Products Regulation (CPR 2024)" conference on Thursday 30 January in the conference hall at the Ministry. This new regulatory framework, which was recently adopted and will replace the current 2011 Regulation, will introduce significant innovations for the construction products industry in sustainability and digitalisation.
At the event, which was attended by more than 800 people, experts from leading institutions and organisations in the field underlined standardisation's key role in rolling out the CPR 2024 by making it easier for Spanish companies to comply with it. Technical standards are a strategic tool for public agencies in the effective deployment of public policies and in regulatory development.
José Manuel Prieto, Deputy Director General for Industrial Quality and Safety at the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, pointed out that "the new regulation is an improvement on its predecessor in several respects, further refining the process of drawing up technical specifications for products and seeking better integration with national building codes. It also brings new features on issues such as information and documentation digitalisation and product sustainability.”
Javier García, Director General of UNE and Vice-President of ISO, commented: "As a successful model of public-private partnership between government and the Spanish business community, UNE is going to undertake extensive standardisation efforts in the coming years to ensure its successful rollout, in particular in the green transition and digitalisation.”
The new European Construction Products Regulation will pave the way for the industry's twofold green and digital transition, including harmonised rules on how to express the environmental performance of construction products throughout their life cycle and the rollout of the digital product passport (DPP) for construction products. In this respect, European technical standards will deliver crucial support in driving this green and digital transition.
