The Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) and the Spanish Association of Executives and Directors (EJE&CON) held the UNE-EJE&CON Meeting on 20 June at the UNE headquarters in Madrid, entitled "New sustainability information scenario: opportunity or risk?" During the conference, the new European ESG reporting framework was analysed, along with the potential of the standards to help SMEs meet transparency requirements at lower costs and with greater competitiveness.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn first-hand about international and European standards that facilitate the preparation of sustainability information and discussed how to integrate them into business strategy to build trust among customers, investors and governments.
The European Commission's latest decisions on sustainability ease obligations for many organizations, while also opening up significant opportunities for SMEs.
The experts therefore concluded that standardisation offers a way to improve the ESG performance of SMEs and to communicate these actions to customers, suppliers, financiers, employees and end users.
The event was attended by Cristina Sancho, president of EJE&CON;
Yolanda Pérez, Vice President of Good Government at EJE&CON; Luis Rodulfo, Vice-president of UNE, president of CEPCO and member of the CEPYME board of directors; Javier García, Director General of UNE and Vice-President of ISO;
