??????????On 12 December, the headquarters of the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures hosted the 2nd Meeting on Information and Telecommunications Technology Laws and Standards, which was organised by UNE and SETELECO.
The event showcased the relevant contribution that standards make to ensure the interoperability, security and accessibility of Telecommunications and Information Technologies (IT), and thus the promotion of the digital society.
Telecommunications infrastructures and services are supported by a multitude of European standards, many of them from the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). They are fundamental for compliance with the relevant legislation.
The meeting was opened with the welcome address, participated by Pedro Alonso, deputy general manager of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Operators at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, and Javier Garca, UNE's CEO and vice president-elect of ISO. "Today, we live in a hyper-connected world where our society is increasingly digital. Because of this, we believe that in order to maintain a series of telecommunications infrastructures and services, it is especially necessary to have standard-based guidelines to guarantee people full accessibility and security", said Javier Garca.
Next the first panel was held, "Standardization Scenarios in Telecommunications and IT", participated in by Emilio Dvila, head of the ICT Standardization Sector at the European Commission; Luis Jorge Romero, CEO of ETSI; Paloma Garca, Director of Standardization Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement at UNE; Eusebio Felguera, Head of Digital Public Policy at Telefnica; and Ismael Arribas, CEO of KUNFUD CERO SEIS, S.L. Bridging the digital divide and making it possible for all organizations, especially SMEs, to get on board with the digital transformation demanded by the market were just two of the main conclusions drawn from the panel.
Next on the agenda was the panel "Contribution of Standardization to Telecommunications and IT" which was participated in by Marta Serrano, deputy director general of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation; Carmen Martn, head of electrotechnical business and ICT at UNE; Borja Larrumbide, Security Assurance Manager at Amazon Web Services for Spain and Portugal; and Emilio Herrera, vice-president of the Smart Cities Commission at AMETIC. Among other topics, they addressed the new General Telecommunications Law, Digital Enabling Technologies, cloud interoperability and the IoT node.
Arturo Azcorra, Director General for Telecommunications and Audiovisual Services at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.
