The increasing emphasis on bioeconomy research is fostering the development of emerging technologies that convert biodegradable waste into high-value products or compounds, benefiting industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agrochemicals, cosmetics, and food.

The large-scale use of bio-waste (currently 4 million tonnes in Spain) will not only reduce its significant environmental impact but also promote the bioeconomy and its associated social benefits.

Bioplastics have a promising future and a transformation in the plastics industry. These are plastics derived from vegetable products whose development seeks to reproduce the intrinsic beneficial characteristics of plastics and reduce their impact on the environment.

This second Prospective Study focuses on innovation in bioplastics. Standardisation is a strategic tool for introducing and consolidating their use in the market.
