The general director of the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, and vice-president of ISO, Javier García, attended the 4th Industrial Safety Conference on 18 April, organised by the Spanish Federation of Oversight Bodies (FEDAOC), a member of UNE.
During his speech, Javier García highlighted the role of UNE and technical standards as facilitators for implementing legislation, as well as the importance of public-private collaboration in the everyday work of the Spanish standardisation body, which is highly focused on industrial safety and supporting public administrations.
The UNE Director General thanked FEDAOC and the attendees for their participation in the UNE Regulatory Inspection Committees (CTN-UNE 192) and the Certification of People in Industrial Safety (CTN-UNE 330), because of the impact that the work has on the progress of Spanish society and industry.
The President of the Spanish Institute of Engineering, José Trigueros, was in charge of welcoming attendees. The opening and presentation was led by the President of FEDAOC and ASECAM, Javier Castells; and the Secretary General of FEDAOC, Rafael Pardo. The Deputy General Director for Quality and Industrial Safety at the Ministry for Industry and Turism and President of the National Accreditation Body (ENAC), José Manuel Prieto, opened the conference, which was closed by the Madrid Region's General Director for Economic and Industrial Development, Jaime Martínez; and the Technical Secretary of FEDAOC, Jesús Méntrida.
The seminar was organised around several roundtables, discussing the following topics: security legislation; the role of standards in the industrial regulatory inspection; lightning and its applications in the industrial world; Updating the UNE-EN ISO 17020 Standard on Inspection Entities; and inspections in generating facilities.

Infrastructure of Spanish quality
ENAC and UNE, and the Spanish Metrology Centre (CEM), form the three basic pillars of quality infrastructure in Spain.
Metrology, accreditation and standardisation are being dealt with together and resolutely in order to respond effectively to the major current challenges facing Spanish society and industry in areas such as quality infrastructure, industrial safety, innovation, digitalisation and sustainability.
