Service Management Institute honours UNE for driving excellence in services

05/11/2025

The Director General of the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE), Javier García, received the 2025 Service Excellence Award, presented by the Service Management Institute (SMI) during the Service Excellence Summit held on 30 October in Madrid.

The award recognizes UNE’s work to standardize and promote best practices in service excellence, both in the private sector and in public administration, helping to improve the competitiveness and efficiency of Spanish organizations.

During his remarks, Javier García expressed his gratitude on behalf of UNE and highlighted the close collaboration with SMI since 2018. He emphasized that both organizations share the same purpose: “to promote excellence, innovation, and trust in services so that Spanish organizations can achieve positions of leadership and prestige in international markets”.

The Service Management Institute, a UNE member since 2018, leads committees CTN 309/SC 1 on Service Excellence and CTN 71/SC 40 on IT Service Management and Governance, promoting national and international standards that foster professionalism and continuous improvement in service management.

Javier García highlighted the SMI team’s involvement in standardization and their efforts to attract new experts to the technical committees, with special mention of its president, Javier Peris, whom he described as “a tireless advocate for excellence and continuous improvement”.

With this recognition, UNE reaffirms its commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability—values that guide its efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of organizations and build trust within society.
