More than 40 countries gathered in Maceió (Brazil) for the General Assembly of the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT), which took place from 28 April to 1 May. Among the participating countries was Spain, through the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, a national member of COPANT.
Key topics addressed included the digital transformation of standardisation, including SMART standards and the use of artificial intelligence. In addition, the international standards bodies ISO and IEC analysed global trends such as sustainability, energy efficiency, and the establishment of partnerships with relevant stakeholders for the development of standards.
Likewise, the members of the Spanish translation group, led by UNE, met to prioritise those ISO standards that will be available soon (a single version in Spanish for Spain and the entire Latin American region), such as those related to the management of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or ESG objectives (environmental, social and good governance).
The UNE delegation was led by Javier García, General Director of UNE and Vice President of ISO, who was accompanied by Mónica Sanzo, Director of Cooperation and International Relations, and Natalia Ortiz de Zárate, Head of International Relations.
The representatives of the Spanish standards body held bilateral meetings with the countries of the region and participated in the inauguration ceremony of the COPANT ABNT park, where UNE planted a tree that will serve for the recovery of the biodiversity of the area.
