The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, has coordinated the celebration of the first in-person meeting of the ISO/TC 279/WG3 “Tools and Methods” working group, in Malaga, responsible for developing the future international standard ISO 56012 – “Innovation ecosystem management”. The meeting, which took place on the days July 8, 9 and 10 in MálagaTechPark, brought together 38 experts from 20 countries, both in person and online, positioning Spain as a key player in defining global innovation standards and consolidating its international leadership in standards in this area.
Standardisation is consolidated as a strategic tool to structure and strengthen innovation ecosystems, allowing public and private entities to share a common language and aligned approaches. In this context, UNE reaffirms its role as Spanish representative in international standardisation organisations and as a facilitator of technical dialogue on a global scale.
During the three days, experts debated and advanced the contents of the future ISO 56012, a standard designed to establish practical guidelines for the effective and sustainable management of innovation ecosystems, key to facing the social, technological and economic challenges of the 21st century.
The event also made it possible to highlight the success story of Málaga TechPark as an international benchmark in public-private collaboration for innovation, proposed as practical example within the future standard.
In parallel with the technical meeting, various open activities focused on innovation management were held, with the participation of representatives from public entities, governments, international organisations, standardisation bodies, private companies, research centres and universities. One of the most valued spaces was the Matchmaking event, where international experts connected directly with companies operating in the park, creating real opportunities for cooperation.
The opening of the event was carried out by the Director of Cooperation and International Relations at UNE, Mónica Sanzo, who highlighted that “Promoting innovation is one of UNE's strategic pillars, technical standards act as key lever to promote the most innovative technological developments and the transfer of knowledge". Sanzo reaffirmed UNE's institutional commitment to promoting innovation, aligned with both European and global political priorities.
This meeting has consolidated Spain as a a key player in ISO's work on the future of innovation, and reinforced the value of standards as a structuring framework for innovative initiatives worldwide.
