08/10/2025

The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, is taking part this week in the Annual Meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), held in Kigali, Rwanda, under the motto “United for Impact”, which brings together the world’s leading standardization leaders and experts.

UNE’s delegation in Kigali is led by Javier García, Director General of UNE and Vice President of ISO. As President of the Technical Management Board and a member of ISO’s Board of Directors, he will take part in strategic discussions aimed at modernizing the organization and strengthening its ability to respond to the major challenges faced by organizations and society as a whole.

In this way, over the course of five days, UNE’s Spanish delegation will be actively contributing to international discussions on the role of standards in major global challenges, such as sustainability, digitization, artificial intelligence, biodiversity, and international trade, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The meeting, organized by the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB), is the leading global forum for dialogue on the impact of International Standards on the competitiveness of economies and on building a more secure, sustainable and inclusive future.

The meeting focused on how international standards can drive practical and collaborative solutions to global challenges, from the green transition to the responsible development of artificial intelligence and the promotion of fair and sustainable trade.

UNE’s participation in this international forum thus reinforces Spain’s role as a key player in the global standardization system, contributing to a shared vision of progress and cooperation through standards that promote innovation, trust, and sustainable development.
