In the run-up to the first European Women4Cyber Conference, which aims to reflect on and highlight women's role in cybersecurity, and which will take place in Madrid, on 13 November, UNE hosted the meetings held by both the national chapters and the Women4Cyber Council. UNE's Director of Standardisation Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement Paloma García welcomed attendees to the morning session of the meeting; and the Director General of UNE and ISO Gender Champion Javier García opened the Council meeting, which was also attended by the Chair of the Women4Cyber Foundation, Anett Mádi-Náor; the Secretary-General of ECSO and the Women4Cyber Foundation, Luigi Rebuffi; and Elena Santiago, Vice-Chair of the Women4Cyber Foundation and Director General of CEN and CENELEC.
The Women4Cyber "Hacking Gender Barriers" Conference will take place on 14 and 15 November at the Neptune Palace. It will be the first conference in Europe organised by Women4Cyber that will bring together women and men to collaborate on improving diversity in this field.
UNE and standardisation promote the role of women through the use of technical regulations and standards that encourage gender equality and diversity. A good example of this is the creation of the CTN-UNE 194 on Gender Equality that Spain actively participates in to develop the future international standard ISO 53800, which includes a model for improving equality between women and men within organisations. The international standard UNE-EN ISO/IEC 27001 is the benchmark for cybersecurity and protecting information in organisations.
The Spanish chapter of Women4Cyber (W4C Spain) is an initiative that was created to assume a position of leadership to promote and raise awareness of women's role in cybersecurity in Spain and gender diversity within the sector. It aims to build a more secure and inclusive digital world for everyone. The Association is the Spanish headquarters of Women4Cyber.eu, founded by the European Cybersecurity Organisation (ECSO), and is the first women's cybersecurity association in Spain to have European backing.
