Technical standards are strategic allies of the Spanish machinery industry because they help to comply with various laws and boost exports to both Europe and overseas.
This is one of the main findings of a recent gathering organized by the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, where experts from government agencies and representatives of private sectors of Spanish and European industry explained the most important aspects of the new Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery, which will replace the current machinery directive in 2027. Construction machinery manufacturers, importers and distributors will have 42 months to prepare for the implementation of the new regulation.
The objectives of this UNE Meeting are to create an interest group within the UNE Corporate Members whose common thread is industrial machinery; to promote the interrelationship between them by sharing problems and taking advantage of synergies and strengthening ties.
During the conference, experts also covered other aspects, such as the use of harmonized standards, categories of machinery subject to conformity assessment procedures, and new essential requirements. They also presented practical use cases and future adaptations to this new regulation.
Ignacio Cáceres (Regional Government of Andalusia), Jorge Sanz (CNVM-INSST), Gianpiero Negri and Sonia Ruiz (Amazon Europe), Enrique Rodríguez (FEM-AEM. PALFINGER IBÉRICA MAQUINARIA, S.L) and Paloma García, Francisco Luis Arribas and Isabel Linares (UNE) took part in this event.
