The general director of the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, and vice-president of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Javier García, took part in the international seminar "Advances in sustainability", organized by the National Standards Institute (INN) in Santiago de Chile on 4 December. There, he presented the European outlook on sustainability information.
He discussed how standards and standardization activities support the preparation of sustainability reports in the framework of the European report under the CSRD, in the context of the European Sustainable Finance Strategy and the Green Deal.
He noted the main contribution of the Directive, which is the relationship between UNE, EN, ISO and IEC standards in the environmental, social and governance areas and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards developed by EFRAG.
This event takes place at a pivotal moment when relations between the European Union and Chile will be strengthened through the renewal of the EU-Chile trade agreement. Alongside tariff and technical issues, sustainability, climate change, gender, and environmental considerations are gaining even greater importance.
Other speakers included Sergio Mujica, the secretary general of ISO, and Sergio Toro, Executive Director of INN.
